The Grayslake Fire Protection District protects an area of approximately 24 square miles in central Lake County with a population of 35,000. The District is encompasses a range of single-family residential units, commercial businesses, the College of Lake County main campus, and the Lake County Fairgrounds.


The Grayslake Fire Protection District presently has 1 Chief, 1 Deputy Chief, 3 Battalion Chiefs, 9 Lieutenants, 14 Full Time Firefighter/Paramedics, 35 Part Time personnel, 2 Fire Inspectors, 1 Administrative Secretary and 1 administrative officer.


This year the Grayslake Fire Protection District will respond to over 4,000 emergency calls. Recent years have indicated an increased call volume of 12 - 15% per year.


The Grayslake Fire Protection District provides provide fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, water rescue, specialized rescue, fire cause and determination, public education, and other community services to a. These services will be provided as needed within the boundaries of the District.






Part Time Positions

Part time positions are filled on an as needed basis. Applicants must be certified Firefighter 2 or Basic Operations Firefighters and EMT-P Certified through the Illinois Department of Public Health. Part time personnel are expected to maintain the same physical readiness as the full time personnel.
